OR... Brother's phone printer app is pretty good. Maybe reset your printer to factory default and then try to access it via phone app and set it up that way. Once it's set up that away, Chromebook/box will be very happy with it. As long as it's not wired to anything except electricity, you should be fine. I use the phone app for things like scanning/copying and, have even used it to actually print.
