YouTubeTV

We watch too much TV.  I read a lot and do other things but we end up watching right much news and a couple of shows and a couple of series and movies.  And as long as the price is reasonable I'm good.  We have two ROKU TVs which I love.  The absolute best TV by far I've ever had.  And when we first moved into our house October 2018 YouTubeTV was $40/month and had pretty much everything I wanted on it.  It came in over the Internet and all was fine.

YouTube added a few more channels I never watch and raised their rates to $55.  I put up with it since changing to another system was kind of a PIA and YouTubeTV has local news.

This week Google announced an increase to $65/month and added a bunch of channels I'll never watch.

So I'm fishing.  I just set up Sling TV.  Their interface is a lot better.  Of course Sling has been in the business for 20+ years so their software is pretty sophisticated and the price for all the channels I want and about 35 I don't is $45/month with a promise that they won't change it for a year and a half at least.  By then everything will have changed anyway.  The down side and this might be a deal breaker is that there is no local news stations.  YouTubeTV has access to the two Austin stations that allow us to have some idea of what is happening here without having to get on the PC.

Otherwise Sling is a lot better and saves me $20/month.  I've got two weeks of Sling to decide.  Fortunately I can go back and forth month to month.  Adding either service to the ROKU takes a couple of minutes so we can easily revert.

Some day we'll have a true cafeteria.

Meanwhile, I just checked.  Nothing's on.

I hate the current state of television. Too many different options, all of them too expensive, and never anything I really want to watch. Well, almost never. Ugh.

I'm not very knowledgeable about TV and streaming options. I purchased a "smart" TV in January. I have amazon prime and have never used the streaming perk. My niece just sent me her user info and code for Disney+. It didn't come preloaded on my TV. Damned if I know how to get the App on my television, so I can watch Hamilton this weekend!

I like Sling. We have their Blue plan so we can get NBC, including the NBC sports channels, because hockey. We also pay the extra $5/mo for 50 hours of DVR so that we can record the games and watch them when we feel like. I also watch "This Is Us" but otherwise rely on other subscription services. We have Netflix, Amazon Prime (which I bought for the 2-day shipping but stayed for its other stellar features), Hulu (which I watch so rarely I'll probably cancel), and the Criterion Channel (*the* movie channel for serious film buffs). All told we're paying about $79/mo for all that. Still a biggish chunk of $, but it's exactly what I want instead of paying much more to Comcast and getting a lot of channels I'd never watch.

Sling seems to be OK. We're not yet set up on it but the big issue is no local stations. No local news. That concerns me some. I've not yet made a decision. We'll likely suspend YouTubeTV and run on Sling for a while. It saves us $20/month. Not nothing.
