It was much better heatwise today and I spoke with the 'Ranch Manager' in charge of the large dogs and we agreed that when it is going to be hot I'll come in the morning. So.. planning.

They had a new dog today brought in yesterday. He was abused and has that kind of downtrodden personality but he and I got on fine and by the time I put him back in his home he was feeling better. It will take a long time of continuous good care to find out what his personality is really like. It will be fun. His name is Hank and he's a Pyrenees mutt of some kind.





Look at those jaws!! I'll keep trying to get a good shot of him. It is hard.

As I've said before there is a building where the small dogs hang out. I try to get shots of them. They don't stop moving much so it is hard sometimes. But I got a couple today:

This guy would fit in my palm.  Unlike most small dogs he is not at all aggressive.  

I've felt like this in the morning.  Another small sweetheart.

Hank's coat is too much for Texas. You should tell him. But, gently.

He had it cut recently. I'm guessing that there were problems since he was abused. It should grow back very thick.

Pyrenees dogs are kind of the Ranch dog of Texas. They are as gentle as they can be but if you put them in a field full of sheep at night, the sheep will all be there in the morning. The Pyrenees are very territorial and understand they need to protect livestock. They all have a LOT of hair, very thick and lush, so I'm guessing it is like the middle eastern robe thing. Protection from the sun.

I'm hoping Hank's fur will return to where it should be. He has an example, Cubby. The two of them are going to be quite the pair of lions at the ranch.

I had no idea Pyrenees were so popular. A friend of mine adopted an older guy and he was an absolute sweetheart. I hope yours settles in for a happy life. I’m not a huge fan of small dogs, but that last little one with the scruffy fur is adorable.

I've never been a fan of little dogs either but of the 20 or 30 of them (they keep moving!) there are several that are just sweet. The old scruffy one is definitely one of them. They all have stories and I don't know hardly any of them. But they are all home and loved now.

Poor Hank. I hate people. At least he's in his happy place now. I'm relieved you'll be able to walk him without melting.

They're beautiful.

And if they're nervous, apprehensive, scared, scarred, emotionally wounded...you can see the beauty or th eir hearts and spirits underlying their immediate histories, just waiting to be expressed and shared.

They just need loving space in which to blossom.

My sister would love that Great Pryenees. It's her favorite breed.

That little Chihuahua is a cutie. He should find a wonderful home if he isn't aggressive.

These guys are home. They visit other places occasionally and every now and then one of them has some volunteer who takes a fancy to them, they are mostly in their forever home. There are a couple of chihuahua's there who are very chill, though. Only one or two that are yippeee.

I guess I misunderstood. I thought the dogs were adaptable. It makes me appreciate you and the ranch even more.
