An adage in my mind for a long time. The movies that advertise the most need it because they suck.
I really wanted to see Wicked. I never got to see the play but love the concept and the actors seem to know what they are about. But two things will keep me away:
1 - It is being flogged way too much so I assume it is bad.
2 - They have managed to cram about 2 hours of musical into a four hour, two movie snooze fest.
So, I'll see it on Disney or Apple or YouTube in a couple of years. No loss.
And, of course, there is Gladiator II. Also a streamer in a couple of years. I loved the first movie. It was original and innovative and a great story with excellent actors. G2 has some excellent actors. I love Denzel but he is ALWAYS Denzel. It is a good gig but no stretch. He hit his highlight in Training Day and needs to do no more in my mind. This role is good for him but.... streaming is fine.
Both of the movies will win a bunch of academy awards (which is why they are being shown before the end of the year).
What I really want to see is A Complete Unknown. They will over advertise it and ruin my perfectly good algorithm but it will be an excellent movie. The teaser in YouTube shows that they've got it right. And Chalamet is an actor. A bit of a chameleon and I think perfect for the role of Dylan. The rest of the casting looks great too. They took the movie seriously and, of course, the period is right up my alley.
Today is a little different day. I'm going to take Dana to the docs here in a bit. She's getting a second shot in a different place to take care of pinching in a different vertebrae. It will help. She needs a driver.
When I get back I've got a 1PM pickleball set of games with a bunch of intermediate, more serious, players. I'm hopeful. They've got 28 people signed up for six courts so I don't know how it will be organized. Should be interesting. I know a bunch of the people playing.
