I've got Dog Ranch puppy duty today and it will likely happen but the high today is not very and right now the wind chill is at freezing so I'm not really excited about being out there.  I've already gotten used to spring and for the second year am less enamored with winter and the cold than I used to be.  Other than the Ranch I've got nothing on the agenda.  There are things to do outside but they will be there when it gets warmer in a few days.

Meanwhile I made a little progress on Oculus.  There is a program that demonstrates the basics, a walk through of what you need to know to get started.  The weird thing is it does not come installed nor is it really up front and center when you first put on the googles.  Nor does it show a lot of pretty basic stuff that is covered in various independent 'Like and Subscribe' YouTube videos.  Once I found that I've got things to do and things to play with.  Not a lot but at least somewhere to start, a foothold.  Still way too much costly software.  BUT I just found a 'L&S' video that gives leads to the best free games so I now have something to do today other than freeze outside.

I finished the 10 book Expanse series yesterday.  The video series stopped before the end of the story and I'm hoping it will return.  But I've read through to the end and was really surprised at how much I reacted to the loss of the characters.  I've lived with them for the past four years since being immobile with my hip surgery.  One of the authors has another series out soon so I'm hoping it has legs too. Meanwhile I've got a dozen other books, mostly Amazon freebees, to work through.  None of them really exciting but I've not yet read them so there is hope.

Kindling 'Death in the Sunshine'
Audibling Stephen King's 'The Cell'
Watching 'Upload' second time through, this time with Dana, in prep for the new season

Spring will return in a few days but we're back in winter right now.  The wind chill is freezing both in fahrenheit and celcius and has crept up all of one degree since early this morning.  Not like I care too much as I don't have anywhere to be but Zoe is annoyed as we can't go on our walk.  The temp is going up enough to be more comfortable but it is still going to be a couple of hours and she is not happy.

I'm enjoying Monday as another day off having recovered from planting the bushes at the Dog Ranch, digging up a 3" tree that Dana decided was dead or nearly so, and hauling a dozen bags of mulch to our back yard.  It is a testament to my fitness that I feel fine after all that.  It is a testament to my age that I was really, really sore on Saturday.  My age has accelerated in the past year or so.  Annoying.

Quick report on the Oculus.  There is a lot of help on YouTube which is nice as the Oculus has very little.  I've never seen a device that is so perfectly suited for a walkthrough to set it up and they have nearly zero.  Fortunately YouTube has a bunch of people to help.  I do a little bit at a time but keep running into road blocks of the money or sign up kind.  There are a bunch of different companies that have their fingers in the software and they all require signup and/or money and it is a PIA to just use the damn thing for much of anything without spending a lot of time and dollars.

It is not a fail.  It is a well made device.  But when the very first thing I run into after buying it is a list of things to do all of which cost either $29 or $19 each it is pretty annoying.

The tech is pretty nice, though.  I've enjoyed canoeing through the African veldt watching the elephants but could not figure out how to sign up for the skiing program to get some downhill in.

The owner of the Dog Ranch asked me to plant some lady banks rose bushes she bought.  Anywhere else it would be a huge no big deal.  Here you've got to dig through a 65 million (or 6000 depending on your theological bent) year old seabed to get a hole deep enough to let the roots do anything.  So I've got my pickax and shovel and will soon head out.  This instead of walking dogs.  But not like I can say no.

So, good work out for me today.  One of the biggest annoyances in my life is I can no longer take NSAID's.  I used to take them before bike rides.  Cyclists liked to call it Vitamin 'I'.  Now I have to settle for arthritis strength Tylenol and muscle relaxers.  Not nearly as effective.

Zoe is not feeling well again.  We're changing her food back to what she ate when we first started to deal with her allergies.  I don't think it is the food, I think it may be something else but the something elses are not as easily dealt with as allergies so I'm hoping.

I ordered an Oculus 2.  I've kind of wanted a VR experience for a while.  As long as no one can see me.  This is so well thought out I've got to try it.  And Dana gave me money for our anniversary present for me to spend on something geeky.  She will use this too.  The only real downside is you HAVE to have a Facebook account.  At least for now.  There's a lot of push back on that so it may change.  I've got the VERY locked down FB account I use for the Senior Dog Ranch so I have at least some communication with them.  I think I can use that.  It has its own email account that I really don't use at all and only collects notifications from FB that can collect and be ignored.

Anyway, Oculus is on the way.  We'll see how interesting it is, what kind of stuff it has.

Just got a report from my sister that the importer worked for her so I'm going to try that one more time.
