Another thing I've never done
Apr. 16th, 2022 10:51Owning a house is a continual resistance of entropy, the tendency of the universe to devolve to chaos. Some idiot (aka - me) put salt on our walk just in front of our porch the past few winters resulting in what is known as spalling. I'd never heard this term but this is what it looks like:

I've already cleaned it up some by chipping away at the loose stuff. I'm sure I'll do more chipping and maybe some grinding with my drill before I fix it. I only want to do it once so prep is most of the work. The entire block is about 32 sqft and I think I've got to coat it all for it to look decent. That means a square concrete trowel and some stuff they make that adheres to existing concrete. It has to be good, it has polymers in it. Anything with polymers in it is good and gets a Tim the Toolman Taylor grunt after you say it.
I've watched the Bob Villas video and the Quickcrete video and now know that it is called spalling and that's about it.
I've got a ways to go before I figure it out but I've got more time than I have money or good sense so I'll get there. And from now on, no more salt.
But I've gone for a walk with Zoe, bought bagels and consumed one, cut the grass and chipped at my spalling diseased sidewalk. And it is just now 11AM. I'm going to recalk some of the shower before it gets worse (more entropy) and then call it a day.
