I doubt he had a name before last month when he was pulled from a remote Texas property where he was hoarded with 65 or so other dogs. None were neutered so they were freely breeding in an environment with no medical care, unclean conditions, covered in filth and left outside in cages. The human residents were arrested and charged. The dogs have all found homes but for 'Scar'. I went along with the shelter publicity guy when we put 'Scar' on TV and I found him to be the most laid back dog I've ever seen.
He does not bark or growl, at least not yet. He does jump around in joy when it is time to do something like going outside or coming back in.
When were were at the TV studio he walked into a glass door. I think he'd never seen one before.
When surrounded with Toby's toys he pays no attention. I think he's never had toys.
His house at the shelter was actually set up pretty nice:

He has lost much of his hearing so the other dogs did not bother him much. Like all shelters it is very noisy. But he didn't care.

I brought him in through the back yard so he'd have a bit of time to work up to going into a house. Not even sure he'd ever been into a house. He never did make a mess in his shelter home so he figured out about being house broken for the most part.
He did, however, mark Dana's suitcase which was lying on the bedroom floor. She happened to catch him and did exactly what she should have done. A loud 'NO' at which time I took him outside for a bit. I think he'll figure it out.

In my office. He's got those deformed feet. They don't seem to bother him much but I don't think he will be a big walking dog. I do intend to get him out and walking as much as he can handle to build up his muscles and heart.

Meanwhile, he's figured out the couch. I gave him the pillow and he put it to good use.
He's been in and out of my lap some and is currently in the best dog bed we have, one that Toby hardly ever uses and we originally got for Zoe and her arthritis.
We'll see how the night goes but I suspect he'll sleep through it. I'll give him a bath tomorrow and arrange for him to see the vet early next week so he can get on the Bravecto wagon along with Toby. We don't do fleas or such around here. Bravecto isn't cheap but I remember the days before Advantage and Bravecto. Washing and flea spray and all the rest.
I keep looking at our situation from his view. He followed me around and lay by the kitchen while I was making dinner and followed me into my office. My thought was he's waiting to be returned to the shelter which was so much better than his previous 8 years.
But he's got to learn to live in luxury from now on.
It will be interesting to see who he becomes. Toby was kind of trying to get him to play a bit this evening but it is definitely too soon for that. They are the same age so it will be a thing, I'm sure, that they will play and growl and bark at each other and be dogs.
Toby is managing the change well. He has pretty much ignored Beaux as he did Zoe. Just doing his thing and Beaux is doing his thing. They are both very calm dogs now enjoying their mid life together.
