Caffeine on the bike
Sep. 24th, 2022 13:36I had no thought about riding today but I got buzzed up on a couple of cups of coffee and suddenly it sounded like a good idea. And it was. About halfway through I started to fade away from insufficient calories so I took a couple of shots of Gu, put on some good music, and was fine. It was 84 degrees but only 55% humidity so as long as I was moving through the air it was fine.
My stopping signal was when everyone else started being a little off. One car decided they should treat me like a pedestrian and stop when they saw me signal at the intersection. In other words they became unpredictable with other vehicles in the area and me in the intersection. I kept going straight instead of turning until they went past. The last thing I'm going to do is turn in front of a metal killing machine with a human in control. I've got more hours on a bike than a lot of people do driving and am still accident free for a reason. That was followed by someone playing baseball in the middle of the street which is fine but they made me guess which way they were going to move rather than just staying still and letting me go around. But when the kid with an electric child's motorbike shot in front of me across the street I called it a day.
Normally I have great people karma when I'm riding and am very careful to put myself in the situation that I've got always got control and an escape route. Today was an anomaly and hopefully the universe has it out of its system.
It is about time to pull the dough out of the refrigerator for tonight's pizza. It needs 3 hours to warm up and get all stretched out and ready for the oven.
Dana was all set to go to a friend's 60th birthday party tonight but it looks like she has talked her way out of it. Thirty or forty people you don't know at a location where someone drove you and you have no way to leave until it is over? What could go wrong with that?
I was invited too. Hah.
It looks like I've solved the long term care insurance issue I had and it actually works out for the best by a long shot. Knowing what I know now I'd have made some changes long ago but ain't that always the way? Dana and I are covered for the foreseeable future. If/when things go to shit we'll be able to afford having someone come in and care for whichever of us need it or go to a nice facility if we can't stay here. It is what we've had all along but we're paying a lot less now. Inflation is killing us in other ways but this has worked out.
Probably football for the rest of the day. And a VERY late Austin FC game thanks to Vancouver. We've already made the playoffs and now are playing for a home stand and to just get on a roll for the first playoff game.
