A third of the way
Mar. 11th, 2023 09:20Don't think I'll catch Indian Wells but Madrid is a probability. I decided to subscribe to the Tennis Channel. The cost works out to be about 91 pounds sterling with Prolific money. I've 36.51 in a week so I'm thinking I'll make it pretty soon.
So much of their surveys are mind numbingly boring and occasionally offensive and frequently dumb. But Phd candidates have to do something and they need data.
Sometimes it is worthwhile and I feel like I'm contributing. I'm in the most desired demographic (old white men... really). Not that I'm desired but I'm scarce on Prolific so I get a lot of surveys offered and can pick and choose the ones that are worth my time. Meaning they don't take too long (I've got about a 15 minute max time involvement) and pay per hour enough to be worthwhile.
In the past I've gotten some great ones including on that wanted me to help troubleshoot an app they were developing. I ended up doing half a dozen sessions at 7 pounds each and really enjoyed them. Hoping for something similar again.
Nothing on the agenda. Dana called last night and had just come back from the funeral and follow on lunch. The grandfather shot himself in the heart in the back yard. Don't know if he left a note but he was borderline dementia and his wife was full on alzheimer's so he didn't have much he wanted to hang around for. I therefore retract some of my previous vitriol. The service and lunch was healing.
Dana will not be back until Monday. Zoe and Toby and I are doing OK. Toby's not happy to be here without her but he enjoys going on our morning walk.
Today is spread the mulch day. I'd get a few more bags but the Smart Car doesn't really work so well for that. I could get maybe three. But I can spread what I put out last week. My back feels pretty good. No ill effects from playing tug of war with Sadie yesterday.
Other than that, just puttering. Late game today for the AustinFC against Kansas City. The Apple+ MLS broadcast has a neat feature. You can select a different announcer. There is a guy who broadcasts on an Indie music iHeart channel. They guy announces by himself, which is incredibly difficult, and does it well. He has a really dry and funny sense of humor dropping jokes as he goes along. No response. No one to laugh at them. Just lays them down and moves on. He's fun to listen to, knows a lot about Austin FC soccer, and is absolutely partisan. The Apple + commentators are too neutral. But what a treat to get good commentary and solid streaming all at no cost (thank you T-Mobile).
Off to mulch.
