Time for a drought
Mar. 12th, 2023 10:06Third time this year already I've had to cut the grass. Second time I've actually done it (Dana gets credit for cut number 2). I mean I do it with a battery powered mower and edger and it only takes me about half an hour but still.
We currently have the spring weeds instead of our local buffalo grass. It happens every year. There is a variety of weed/grass that comes up every year. I've looked it up to find out how to kill it and the method is to wait until drought season. The grass that will overkill it is an indigenous one that loves the drought. So less watering and summer will kill the weeds with no action on my part. Unfortunately until it gets hot and dry I've got to cut the grass a lot. By June I will only have to cut it every few weeks.
Dana is gone another day. She's spending brunch with her aunt at 'the Club'. She loves it. Her aunt loves it. I visited aunt on my own once and we decided that I was not deserving of the club as I only had sandals with me. Whew! I don't like aunt much either so all is well.
She's coming back tomorrow. I leave for Seattle next week. Dana's brother and his partner come to visit the following week. There is some overlap with me being gone when they first get here but that is all for the better. Dana's older brother is bedridden and has been for years and will be forever. He's only 71 but he acquired Guillain-Barre syndrome a few years ago and it is incurable. Dana's west coast brother is coming to see him. They have not seen each other in 15 years.
I bought a hand truck dolly from Amazon just now. It holds 260 pounds, folds up flat and can hang on the wall. Much as I hate to admit it I don't much like hauling mulch around back. So this is the compromise. I could easily find some local kid and pay him but, people. This will solve the problem without being a big deal. We have pots to move around sometimes too. And probably a peach tree if/when I get around to buying it (when Dana brings her car back).
So I'm off to cut the weeds.
