I managed to get in a single 7 mile circuit today on my bike. First in many months, since before the hot summer. It is the longest I've gone without riding in as far back as I can remember. And it was pretty painful. My right knee hurt all the time and my seat had no saddle toughness. My intent is to start riding in between pickling and walking the dogs. I want to see what happens with my knee. It is the right one, no after market parts in it. I need to decide whether to go through the replacement or not. I'd rather not and won't if exercising on it can level things out. I've been really lazy with any strength exercises and that allows the arthritis to make too many inroads. So I'm pushing back some.
Other than that I didn't do much today. We're going through a daily rain period now which will be followed, if the prognosticators are right, by a very cold Halloween and thereafter. Right now it is nearly 80 degrees but they are talking a possible freeze in a week.
This is Billy:
I've published his photo before and talked about him some. He is a garrulous old man, one of the original Dog Ranch members I think. He and I have come to terms with each other. He bit me once. Mostly my fault. He reacted as I would expect him to react and my control was not sufficient. Not a big deal. Teeth on my wrist broke the skin but I washed it off and it got better. Since then I'm more careful of how I handle him so that I maintain control which keeps him from lunging at the other dogs and keeps him calmer.
Apparently some of the other volunteers have not taken so well to being bit and he has an official 'Do not Walk' sign on his space. I talked to the boss and asked if I could please walk him. She had actually been there when he bit me and has watched me work with him since and agrees I'm OK with him. So as far as I know only the bosses and I walk him.
He's always my first dog walk of the morning. He's doesn't pull my heartstrings like Khaleesi or Shadow but he's a good egg. Just old and cranky. We understand each other.
