Barksgiving is done
Nov. 10th, 2024 09:50Yesterday was open house at the Ranch. It is an essential event that brings money and potential volunteers both of which are much needed. I managed a couple of hours of the four that they wanted then I slunk off down the road. They had enough help and I did my part. I should have been up front and said I'd offer 2 hours instead of 4. Four hours of standing around and smiling is too much even with Khaliesi's help.
There were, I think, a couple of hundred people visiting so I guess it was a success.
The dogs handled it pretty well I think but I bet they slept well last night.
Then a quiet day here. Dana is sick with allergy adjacent respiratory issues. She used to get marginal pneumonia and end up at the hospital a couple of times a year. One of the docs started having her do a gamma globulin infusion (same thing chemo patients get) to boost her immune system. It worked so well over the course of eight years that they stopped doing it. We'll see how that works out.
I've got a weird Skechers issue. One of three Skechers shoes I have has a vinyl label in the tongue where it rests on the top of my foot. And I am, apparently, allergic to whatever that vinyl is made of. If I wear the shoes for any length of time (without socks, I'm in shorts) I end up with the top of my foot itching for half a day. I didn't believe it for the longest time but now only use those shoes in winter with socks. So, maybe a month out of the year. I finally thought, why not?, and requested a refund from Skechers. Or a trade. I'm fine getting a different pair. They may or may not let me do that. I'm OK either way but I'd be jazzed to have a third pair in the rotation since I wear them pretty much exclusively except for dog walking and pickleballing.
Which I am doing this afternoon. It will be a perfect day for PB. Maybe a little warm but still really nice. There are only four of us so it should be interesting. Normally it is 8 or 12 or more and the partners get switched up every game so a different person each time. This will be different. But I know the people and they are all NOT SERIOUS. So it will be fun.
