Not definitive yet but I've been running around with my tech hat on this morning since I lost Internet. I rebooted everything and got it back online but it dropped off again. So I did some network cable tracing and managed to plug my PC into the modem directly. I actually used my network cable tester that I've had for fifteen years and didn't throw out when I shut down the shop. Weird and kind of nice.
The problem is I'm not a hundred percent sure if it is modem or my mesh wireless system. The modem is new but refurbished. I'm one hiccup away from sending it back. Now I'm waiting for the hiccup. I've got 28 more days.
Meanwhile it is all humming along just fine again. Nothing worse than an intermittent failure.
And also meanwhile it was down to 50 (10) degrees this morning. Dana and I sat out on the porch and had our coffee all bundled up in blankets. It was wonderful.
There is zip on my schedule today. Zoe and I did our walk, briskly. I ran into a rather tightly wrapped Asian woman who decided she needed to tell me all about her teenage daughter who she's trying to work up to walking five miles but it isn't going so well and they are only at the two mile point. The woman had a running monologue about it at me for a few hundred yards during which I tried to keep up with the thread of the story and with her pace lagging in both counts.
She was very nice and thanked me profusely for listening (like I had a choice — she was walking my way). I told her to walk an extra mile or two to burn off the anger and she got it, laughed, said that was a good idea and waved goodbye. That is the longest conversation I've had in three years on our walk. It was a little weird but it was nice if it helped her. Zoe kept looking at me wondering what I was doing talking to someone.
The modem remains online for the moment.
