Keanu Reeves and my hair

Reading @beautiful_dreamer_2 's entry about hair and styling made me think of my haircut experiences.  Our roads to a similar solution are different but the results pretty much the same.  I don't like going to get my hair cut.  In the military I did not mind too much.  They did not make a production out of it but cut it in a couple of minutes to where I wanted it (Navy or Marine?  Tapered or blocked?..  the only questions and pretty much the entire discussion).  

After the military I had it cut for a few years but it was always a huge 'thing' with discussions of how I wanted it cut and wouldn't I like to buy some 'product'.  And the whole selling sex and sports along with the haircut makes me miss the military.  I'll have my sex separate, please. 

After a while I let it grow.  It stays about the same length.  Every few months after a shower I put it in its usual hair band pony tail, hold it up behind my head in the mirror, and cut off a couple of inches.  Since I nearly always wear it in a pony tail that works fine. 

Meanwhile for some reason in the middle of the night my brain decided it wanted to dream up a story with me in the middle.  I was involved in shooting a movie as the director or assistant director with a complicated camera set up (like I know anything about such).  As I was trying to figure out the shoot, Keanu Reeves arrived on set and offered to help.  I let him.

I think my mind started chuckling at that point as things kind of faded out.  That's the sort of thing we do in movies, fade out.

Gotta ask: What's the difference between Navy [haircut] and Marine [haircut]; and what is "tapered" and what is "blocked?"

Marine and Army are skin tight on the sides and a little at the top (called a 'high and tight'). Navy is more just a normal short clean cut haircut.

Tapered and block is about the back of the head. Blocked is trimmed close at the back but then squared off at the bottom of the back. Tapered is trimmed close and then just tapered down until it disappears in the back.

I'd send pictures but it is so hard to do that here.

Doubt I can get into any of these options, though....
