Fortunately I opened the box I'd gotten from Amazon a couple of weeks ago.  It had a string trimmer that I'd bought (used/returned.. good deal) to replace the one I have with the dead battery.  I was putting up Christmas lights and saw the box and thought I'd go ahead and charge the battery so I could use it tomorrow.  And it had no battery.  I'm guessing someone bought it, removed the battery and charger, and returned it.  It's Amazon so I wasn't worried.  I logged on and hit returns and saw that this was the last day to return this item (or at least register it for a return).  God watches over dogs and sailors.

After printing off the return label, (I've still got the box so it is easy to slap some tape on it and the label and truck it to UPS), I went online to Lowes and bought a better trimmer for about the same price after my military discount.  And I get a credit for future Lowes purchases if I pick it up.  Smart deal.  They don't charge for shipping but do give you a store credit if you swing by and grab it out of their locker.

So I'm good for the next couple of years with the lawn.  New lawn mower works wonderfully and now the trimmer.  The last one I had lasted five+ years so I'm happy with this.

Today was going to be a nothing day.  Football and maybe grass cutting.  But I got bumped into a pickleball group as someone dropped out.  I get to run around for a couple of hours from 1-3 in perfect weather with sunshine (in Texas, the sun always shines, you know).  What was going to be a slug day will end up being a 12K step day.  And I'll sleep well tonight while Dana stays up being annoyed by the fireworks.

AND, better yet, my coffee company, Fara, is an Austin company that makes the most delicious coffee, decided to clear out their inventory by having a 24% off sale one day only.  I don't NEED coffee but coffee to me is what toilet paper is to my wife.  I've got a five pound bag in the garage but it is the last one.  So I bought a couple of kilos for what worked out to be half the cost of store coffee.  Free shipping.  Whohoo!!

I doubt I'll even have a beer tonight.  My contrary nature results in my drinking less as the world drinks more.  And I closely follow a Reddit sub that has a lot of people with alcohol issues.  Members frequently say IWNDWYT (I will not drink with you tonight), a very positive sentiment that turns a negative into a proactive action.  I'll likely find someone one there who needs a boost to not drink with.  I kind of like not drinking with people.

And will likely get up to see tomorrow's sunrise.  It is late, around 7:30ish.  When we lived in Jacksonville we used to go to the beach on the first day of the year and watch the sun come up.  Kind of a long drive for me but I think it rises around here somewhere.  I might go find it.  Zoe will want to help.
