OK.. I'm tired of the cold now

No Ranch puppies today. They didn't want to put any volunteers in a hazardous situation and it is still too cold for most of the dogs to be outside. They have an excellent heating system and backup generator at the Ranch and all the puppies are cozy. As are ours:




But we are tired of being cooped up inside and want to go for a walk!!

As much as I got tired of triple digit heat I now tolerate it better than the cold. We can't walk outside. It is too cold for dog paws. So we're stuck.

I started a book on Kindle that may be too much. In audible version I couldn't get into it but thought it was worth a second try. It is 'The Shadow of the Wind' and is far more high brow than my usual fare. But somehow came to me and I love the language of the book so it is worth a try.

Conversely we're watching the entire Justified series. I think we had seen the second season but that is all. We started the first season yesterday and I didn't remember any of it other than repeating cast members. So we've got lots of Justified to watch since we can't go anywhere anyway.

Fortunately the electric grid is holding up although ERCOT, the Texas people in charge of electricity have been whining about can we use less electricity please?  This from the same leadership group that has brayed about how wonderful it is that so many people have moved to Texas and how great we are and we don't have to share electricity with any other state.

The general reaction to 'please conserve electricity so we don't have problems' is no very positive.

But we have heat, food, electricity and entertainment.  Kind of hard to complain with all that.  

I'll keep working on a way, though.

I hope you get through The Shadow of the Wind, it is a wonderful book

I'm a hopeless gothic romantic deep in my soul. The Shadow reminds me of so many other books I read long ago. I've gotten lazy over the years and passed up many good books due to my ADHD scatter brain. The problem sometimes is not that I don't like what I'm reading. The Shadow is poetry ensconced in prose and is luscious. The problem is that my mind rolls around in it so much I forget to read the next sentence. And this has so much to roll around in. I recognized it when I was listening to the audio version. I could not keep up. I kept getting lost in a phrase and the damn reader just kept going. So I knew I needed the physical version.

Weirdly it reminds me of Dracula, which I absolutely loved and have both listened to and read.

So, if I can maintain a modicum of focus and not get too lost, I'll finish The Shadow.
