We drove down to a place just north of Fredericksburg today and bought some peaches.  I wanted to be sure I had enough.  I do:

10 pounds of peaches

10 pounds of peaches

They are all pretty hard right now so I've got, I think, a few days.  I put a couple of them in a bag with a banana so hopefully they will be eatable tomorrow.  Meanwhile I'm finding my best recipe.  Last time I did this I found a peach jam with hint of clove and it was absolutely wonderful.  I'm thinking this time I can set up with the basic cooked down peaches and separate into batches with different spices.

Also they had tomatoes:

torture!!! seems early for peaches - of course here, our season is generally august 23rd or the 24th. and tomatoes like those would be thrown away as fakes

Please tell me the tomatoes taste like those I remember from my childhood! Fredericksburg is one of my very favorite places in Texas. My brother lives about 16 miles West of there!

I'm waiting for Colorado peaches to arrive here in the Twin Cities. They're not available here yet.

I'm happy to leave Fredericksburg to others. Other than the Nimitz museum it doesn't do much for me. But the peaches are there so I am too.

Today is peach jam day, I think. They are not really ripe enough but I've got no patience.

The tomato is excellent. Never as good as the ones in childhood but still worthy of a mayo sandwich.
