The whole seasonal thing doesn't work her in Texas so I can't figure it out.  With more cases than any other state (we're so proud) we aren't having cold weather.  It is outside time for us, perfect weather for running and cycling.  Mid 70's.  So people are out and about and not stuck inside with the AC.  Just the reverse.

BUT, we've got a huge load of deniers and people who, I suppose, just don't care about others.  Between those two groups we've got a lot of maskless get togethers.  The football covid explosions are from home parties, not tailgating.  I think people around here are just going to ignore it until it gets so bad that everything grinds to a halt.

Our county is at the moment not in bad shape BUT it looks like it could easily go either way right now:

We're way to close to the red zone of spread

We're way to close to the red zone of spread

I'm less worried about getting covid than needing a hospital for something else.  The latter is way more likely.

These numbers and we're fairly low in infections

These numbers and we're fairly low in infections

As always, my goal is to stay away from hospitals.  Now even more.

I am so sick of Mask Debaters (Say it real fast. :) My friend Jon works for The Mayo Clinic. He was told his trauma unit is going to be the overflow for Corona Virus patients. Trump's last rally in Rochester the day before election day became a super spreader event in Minnesota. Grrrr ...

Did you by chance check out the link to the You Tube video in my most recent post. It's a parody of Be My Guest, titled, Wear a Mask!

I love the Be My Guest parody.

A friend and I decided to go post our own silly Wear A Mask (Stayin Alive) a couple of weeks ago.

I did see it. And your most recent celebration of the election. Very nice on both counts.

Speaking of which, [livejournal.com profile] mrdreamjeans might also recognize the mural in the election dance video (that part was shot just outside of Minneapolis) https://youtu.be/OwLNhESqM7Y

Yep! Chanhassen, site of the Chanhassen Dinner Theater ... recognized it mostly in Washington State immediately. I lived in Seattle off and on from 1999 to 2004.

I figured you'd recognize the mural. The lady with the flag and white dog is one of my best friends from high school in California (but she's native to MN)

Yes, most of that was filmed in Tacoma because that's where I live, I do love my friend rocking out with "Jimmy" in Seattle and "Uncle" in the Seahawks jersey in West Seattle. I'm not a sportsball fan, but something about that was just perfect.

You wouldn't recognize Seattle now, for a number of reasons. :(

I doubt I would ... for many reasons ... I also would not be a fan of the Seattle City Council ... I'm not a fan of the Minneapolis City Council either. I'm quite liberal ... but, both cities have members who are too extreme for me.

I hear you.

I'm very conflicted as of late because I support so many of the ideals, but I have issue with the methods.

Aside from the exploding population, traffic, and unaffordability that I've seen in the 22 years I've lived here, Seattle had become unsafe (even before.... this)

I have a lot of friends in Seattle as well as activities I engage in there (well, not lately) but I find myself hesitant to even drive through on the freeway right now.

It's sad, because I used to love the "Emerald City".

I have a friend who just moved to Fort Worth from Seattle.

She is horrified by people's behavior on a daily basis, and we're all like... "Well, you moved to TEXAS."

Oh, yeah. Huge culture shock, I'm sure. I have the reverse experience when visiting my sister in Seattle.

My favourite Texas story is my friend Tasha visiting there for some work for IBM. Someone at the office there told her she was eligible to buy a gun and urged her to get one. She's legally blind.

The idiots who get together in huge numbers have a lot to answer for.

I've been looking at the calculator from georgia tech that tells you what the likelihood is based on the size of your gathering and your location that at least one person at the gathering has covid. In my county, right now, with a gathering of 10 people, there's a >30% chance that at least one person in that group has covid. And yet my future in-laws are going on and on about how we need to stop "living in fear" Sigh.

That's the big question. Stop living in fear is a logical stop on the trip we've been on. I understand it. So many people do so much and don't get sick. So many people get sick and seemingly survive and do fine. And unless you are a health care worker or end up in a hospital or dead, that world is as remote as the Viet Nam we watched every night when I was young.

My wife is going through a miserable time with her son asking her to come see them. Two kids in school and I don't think they have any way or inclination to quarantine. I've asked if they are willing to be tested before she comes up but that is only marginally assuring. Slightly better than nothing. And a post visit quarantine in a 1300 SWFT house is a joke.

So we're running the chance that we both get sick vs her seeing her son and family. And I think they are a lot more 'living in fear' kind of people now.

Their grandmother dying after having contracted covid from them might not sit really well with the kids but where is the balance? I'm setting up Google Meet for them but it won't be enough and she'll roll the dice.

I think the not seeing it thing is a great point. It's easy for people to say 'well I've been visiting with friends and family and going to stores and going to restaurants and I haven't gotten sick and neither has anyone I'm close to, so obviously people are just overreacting!' And sure, you might be fine. You might do all of the wrong things and never get sick. Or you might do the most things right and still end up sick. And you might just get a little sick and be fine, or you might die, or end up with major long-term consequences. I hope all goes well if she decides to make the visit!
