I did a car thing
Jun. 23rd, 2022 14:36My Smart Car was not being so eponymous. The 'D' transmission indicator was flashing in the car along with the maintenance light. The Interwebs said the software needed to be rebooted (have you turned it off and on again).
So I followed the procedure and damn if the software didn't reset. All is just fine. It was a problem part of which existed before the last time I took it into the mechanic. I think they did not fix it right. So I'm feeling down right mechanical now.
This car actually has a lot of thought into it. Made by Mercedes it gets much the same attention as the Volkswagen did when I was young. People love to play with it and trade maintenance tips so there is a lot of info available on YouTube. Probably saved me $100 and loss of my car for a few days.
In order to fix it I had to pull the ground on the battery while the car was in the on position, thereby rebooting the transmission software.
The battery in this car is under the carpet on the passenger side. Pull up the carpet and there is a foam form that pulls out. The battery is underneath it. BUT what is in the form is two emergency things.
1 - A pump with a canister of foam. The care does not have a spare but does come with an emergency pump and a canister of foam that can be pumped into the tyre.
2 - A towing eye. Yes, a very heavy metal loop that screws into the front of the car so it can be towed.
Those Germans, man.
