We're both much better. I took Toby on a walk today and he was not doing the three legged dog thing. He was putting pressure on all four legs only hopping a bit every 20 or 30 steps. He's putting food in one end and it is coming out the other as normal. He's sleeping well and acting as he always does when Dana is not here. A bit anxious and not as happy but dealing with it. He will explode as will she when she gets back.

Speaking of which she's now not due until the 28th. Aunt had her hip replaced after her fall. More than a bruise. She's 85 but a big walker so her muscles were in good shape and she is, after 3 weeks, doing pretty well. Her daughter is apparently coming back on the 28th so Dana is returning then.

My back is still hurting a bit but I was able to walk the dogs at the ranch, just very carefully. It is the day before our cold snap so getting them out and about was important. Joey had already gone out but was howling as he does every time he sees me and I didn't think it was fair to not walk with him some. We went out for a bit and I wanted to head back to see Khalisi. Joey had other ideas. He plopped down, splayed out his front two paws, and absolutely refused to go back:

I'm not sure I've every seen a dog more bull headed than a pit bull. And Joey is a garrulous old man (ok, ok. we both are garrulous old men) who is as stubborn as they come. He has a soft spot for dog biscuits, though. So I let him win for a little while then start walking him, a yard or two at a time by breaking off a bit of biscuit and holding it out in the direction I want to go. It is a laborious process but we eventually get there. I try not to take him out if there is a time limit. Not worth the work getting him to go back.

Khalisi has continued to have problems with her ACL so she's not allowed to walk. I went into her apartment and sat on the floor to play with her. She crawled up in my lap and completely washed my face.

Khalisi

I was scared of her when I first saw her but now let her get right in my face where she could do some serious damage if she wanted to. But she's a puppy and just as sweet and loving as any dog I've ever known. Solid as a bag of concrete and hell on ropes or anything else that needs to be torn apart. But never a thought of biting or nipping or gnawing on me. She's the one I'd bring home if I could.
