Special dog day
Dec. 26th, 2022 14:23I asked last Thursday and was told that the volunteers were thin today. Not surprising really. I got there just before 9 (40 degrees) and there were NO volunteers. I started doing my thing. One dog at a time.
The biggest problem was my back is still pretty sore. It is sore like maybe having lifted too much weight wile exercising which is better than it has been which was really spiking pain. But still I was hurting the entire morning. Fortunately there is a way to take the dogs down to an enclosure where they can run around off leash and I can sit. That is what I did for most of it. It was not a great set up but the dogs were really restless and needed some peoples so I just tolerated it.
Finally another volunteer came. We usually have four when I work. We had two. So we didn't get to all the dogs. I finally left around 12:30 and got home and took some drugs and ate. I'm now waiting for the drugs to kick in and will be asleep shortly.
Repeat tomorrow but there will be a bunch of people there.
The up side is the weather was absolutely lovely. A great day to be outside. And of course the dogs were wonderful and furry.
I went into Khalisi's 'apartment' and sat on the floor with her. She's not allowed to walk. Still healing her ACL. But she can wiggle and pin me to the floor and wash my face and generally be happy to have me in her home. There are few things that can compare to a pit bull who is happy to see you. I spent 15 minutes or so with her resting on the floor and managed to get up without too much trouble. Then I was done and came back home.
With Dana gone for a couple more days and me down most of the time the dogs don't get near the attention as when she is here. That will change on Thursday and by the weekend they will have forgotten.
Time to rest up.
