Cycling and cooking
Mar. 5th, 2023 11:20I made a huge batch of french onion soup yesterday. I also made some asiago NYTimes no knead bread and three loaves of celeste's sunflower oatmeal bread (the recipe results in three loaves, one process and bake). Of that I'm making up a meal for four (add salad and cookies) for my networking friend who delivered her baby last Thursday. The baby lived for an hour which was anticipated and way better than thriving for a while before the inevitable end. Our group signed up to provide one meal a day for a couple of weeks and today is my day. All the work is done but putting together a salad and making cookies. We have bread and soup and will have cookies all left over so it is not all altruistic.
Meanwhile I went for a bike ride today after walking Zoe. It is a beautiful day with a high at 78 degrees. This summer is going to be hot. The weather people already have a pool, I'm guessing, betting on the first 100 degree day. The way things are going we might make it through March. Maybe. So a day like today is really nice.
I bought a new set of bike shorts and jersey after getting my $20 REI kick back. Really a good deal, though. My older shorts were wearing and were kind of baggy with age or maybe because I lost some weight. Regardless the new ones don't move around at all so my butt is much less abraded. I did stop after about 40 minutes. There is a cyclist who parked his truck across the street from us. My guess is he's from the city and just randomly parked in a convenient neighborhood, took out his bike and took off. I've done that before so I don't really mind. He took off long ago before I started my ride and is still not back. My younger days were like that.
Speaking of which I decided to get a consult from the Georgetown ortho doc and get his opinion on my back progress. I think I'm doing ok but there are times before going to bed that I'm in a lot of pain. It seems to build up during the day and peaks before bed. Sleeping through the night is like filling up the water glass. I'm fine in the morning and it starts all over again. It is getting better. I think. I'd like to get someone who had a degree in something other than theatre to back me up on that. My guess is I'll never be 100% but topping out at 97% in a few months would be satisfactory. As long as it does not stay as it is right now with my being hardly able to move in the evenings.
Not to shower and bake cookies.
