Fiber and exercise
Apr. 15th, 2023 09:13Yesterday was pickleball day. I met with a group (pickleball is played with other people, an interesting experience now days) of 'beginner' pickleball players and played for 2 hours. Definitely recess kind of play. Rotated players after each game so no teams. Constant fast twitch movement, really good for me. I actually did not try for every ball and was only encouraged by the other players when I let one go rather than do something dangerous. Very different playing with the senior group.
After two hours I moved to another court and had my lesson. It is a Pickleball 101 lesson with two other fairly non-athletic women. The instructor is a pretty good player and coach. He and I got into a fast volley showdown at one point that was really fun. Fifteen feet apart hitting the ball hard. No matter how hard you hit a waffle ball it is pretty difficult to hurt someone. Unlike tennis or squash or racketball where things can get aggressive pretty fast, pickleball is not dangerous other than the trip hazard so whacking away at it full strength is not very intimidating.
Now it is the next morning. Back from my walk with Zoe I'm happy to report that I feel about the same as usual with only a few sore muscles. Nothing really bad at all. I've got another lesson on Monday, my last one. Then I'm out in the wild.
My new fitbit will be here today so I'll be setting that up most of the day.
We received a notice from the HOA (I may be the only person in the world who loves their HOA but I really do). The board sent an FAQ. Apparently they had a meeting and already did the ground work in preparation for a vote to install fiber in our development. I currently pay about $80 for 300Mbps. I probably never use that much bandwidth and never will. The board is setting up a deal for us to pay $55 per house for 1Gbps service. More than three times the bandwidth. I could have a gamer party here. If I played games and had friends who wanted to come to my house and use up massive amounts of electricity and make a mess and.... .. well, OK, not likely.
The glitch is that every house will pay for the service whether they agree to have it installed or use it or not. It is an assessment.
I think it is a bold move for the HOA and they are having a meeting on the 25th to hear, no doubt, a couple of hours of whining before they vote to do it anyway.
It could not possibly be better for us. Yet another lowering of fees for us. We had an insurance reduction this year, a tax reduction, and this. All infrastructure stuff that is relentless, for good or ill. This year it is all for good. A drop of $25/month doesn't seem much but for a utility that is a lot. I'm thrilled and looking for ways to thank the HOA. Other than going to the meeting.
