Another Dog Day
May. 2nd, 2023 12:29Once again I'm over 12K steps before noon. Four days a week I hit that without trying. Dogs and pickling take care of it. So nice.
One of the things the Dog Ranch does is work with the shelters. The Ranch takes older dogs that the shelters would normally just have to put down. That accounts for a lot of my best friends. But the Ranch will also help out every now and then with younger dogs who need long term care. One of these is Luke. He doesn't look like much right now. He's recovering from mange that required him to be shaved. He was also abandoned by the side of the road. Turns out he's going to be a wonderful dog. The Ranch is caring for him while he's rehabbing. I took him out today for the first time and he's as sweet as can be. Obviously he's been in someone's home before. I sat down in a chair and he immediately came over and gave me a full body hug like he had been taught how to do it. So sweet.

He's still got a ways to go with his hair growing. I'll get another picture when it grows out a bit more. But he's got a lot of energy now and is obviously getting better every day.
Then there is one of the littles. There are many more of them now. New ones nearly every day. This one I'd never seen before greeted me and all but asked me to pick her up as I walked in this morning. So I did and she helped me sign in. I came back when I was done and she came over to help me sign out again. Another sweet one.

Not a bad way to work on my steps.
We're short one walker so we all have a few more steps than usual. I'm tired but ended up as my last charge with Kaliesi, the pit bull love of my life. As always we had a good time. If the Ranch were closer I'd go see just her on the weekends. Probably good that it is over an hour round trip.
