Waiting with fingers crossed
Aug. 11th, 2023 07:17The guys (gender assumption there) are coming today to fluff up our attic. They are supposed to be her in 10 minutes and, of course, I've structured my typically jam packed schedule around them.
Actually I do have a lunch with the guy who took over most of my computer business today. That is sufficiently jam packed for me.
I got up before six to walk the dogs and be back here ready to welcome them. Far as I can figure out, they are going to park close enough for their hose to reach, dissemble the breaker box and lock directly into enough amps to run the blower, run the hose up to the attic having cleaned out a path through what little we have stored up there, and blow in a bunch of stuff called 'Celbar-loosefil'. I'm thinking it may not take them long. Cost is $1600 all done. Then we start seeing if it makes a difference.
I've got magical money timing. The $1600 isn't any kind of crippling but it is a big dip out of our 4.3% savings account. But earlier this week I traded correspondence with the two companies who owe us money from Dana's oil inheritance. It is not a huge amount but one of the two turns out to be $2800 or so and that check was mailed yesterday. The other should be about the same but that faucet is apparently slower to turn on. Regardless, the savings account is refilled immediately. AND Dana's SS kicked in on Wednesday so the monthly flow from the big Eagle is larger now. I was not too concerned but now am a lot more comfortable. In six or so months we'll have our financial bubble wrap much thicker.
It is now 2 minutes after they said they would be here and no indication. I just texted the manager.
When I go on my walk with Zoe (and now days, Toby) I pass a house that waters their lawn. They do it every morning at 6:30. Seven days a week. In the middle of drought level water restrictions. I finally got fed up after watching this for a couple of months and reported them. It may or may not matter to them but I feel better. More curmudgeonly but better.
Just got a text back saying they would be here between 8 and 8:30 which, of course, means sometime after 8:30.
For the record, Friendly Computers/Connections gave specific arrival times. If we said we were going to be there at 10, we'd be there at 10 or earlier. We were probably 95% successful. No window. An exact time. Having worked that way with my own company for a dozen years I know it is not only possible, it is efficient. Small businesses, and medium businesses, are amazingly sloppy and then bemoan the statistic of how many fail. No sympathy here.
Now your dog picture. This is Nanner. Nanner discovered the pool at the Ranch and spent a bit of time in it. I tried to catch her leaping out and did OK.
