Knee report
Jan. 19th, 2024 09:59About what I thought, maybe a bit worse.
Still waiting on a blood test to be sure I don't have a knee infection. Unlikely
The opinion of the ortho doc, who I seemed to be very competent, was that my knee is a bit loose and falls within the range of possible replacement. After market V2. The ortho has, btw, two pitbull rescues at home so he is the one I need.
But before we get to that, physical therapy for which he set me up. Either the PT solves the problem or it strengthens the muscles to help with post surgery.
The other objection to surgery is fitting it in. I've got just enough things on my schedule that I'd have to do it in mid April or wait until after my birthday in August. We've got the Blues festival after I get back from Issaquah and then in August I'm pretty sure my son and I are meeting up in Cincinnati for the Open Tennis tournament there. I need to be mobile for all of them.
IMHO it is salvageable but I'm a bit biased as I really hated knee recovery. A lot. So, I've got the PT orders in my pocket and will drop by there later. And, once it is not below freezing I'll get on my bike and/or spend some time in the perfectly good fitness room we have. My intent is to force things to get better or worse but not the same.
It is really cold here, near freezing, today, tomorrow and Sunday and then not only warms up to the fifties + it stays that way for a week at least. I've gotten so I prefer bitching about the triple digit weather over bitching about the cold. Pretty much the same either way but fewer clothes needed for the former.
We started the second season of Justified. We have seen it before but it has been years and I remember it being solid to the end. We've not seen any of the other seasons so we'll have a lot of Givens in our future. It is nice with two of us to be locked into a good and long series. To be able to say 'want to watch a couple of Justifieds?' and it be an easy decision. One of those comfortable married things.
I'm about 20% into Shadow of the Wind so I suspect it will stick. A good story and some of the phrases are pure poetry.
I also bought a copy of the paperback of Shogun. They have created a new mini series about it and I wanted to reread the book. I may have read it twice, for sure once, and watched the Richard Chamberlain version at least twice. I could not get a Kindle version of the book and nothing audible. The only version I could find was split into two parts each of which cost a full Kindle book price. So I found a paperback online for $10 that is coming soon. Probably the one I gave away 20 years ago. It will be very weird reading an IRL book. I think I might read the entire series. The rest of them are more available.
I just made my Friday payment of the Chase card to ensure we remain what they call 'deadbeats' racking up ZERO interest on any credit cards. It is such a joy to me after years of paying interest to not pay any at all. I can definitely see what has happened with inflation kind of all across the board but we're treading water. The car and vet visit for the dogs (routine shots, etc) have definitely cut into my expectations of being able to put some money into deep storage but I'm still hopeful things will calm down and we'll have some months of lower expense I can take advantage of.
