So far so good
May. 29th, 2024 12:05I went to see my primary care and cardiologist today for pre surgery clearance. Everything went well. No issues at all. AND I picked up a new cardiologist. I never clicked much with my old one. She may be very good but I was at best neutral about her and then we had two procedures that she was in charge of. Neither went well. On top of that I started about a year ago with a biweekly injectable to lower bad cholesterol and raise the good stuff. I was on Crestor at the same time. We had a blood panel last August that showed exactly the numbers we wanted. My bad cholesterol was half of what it had been and my good was up.
My first thought was we should experiment with not taking Crestor in addition to the injectable (Rapatha). I wrote the cardiologist and she said no. IMHO running a test for six months was a no brainer. Nearly zero down side. Worst case is my numbers creep back to where they were and we reverse. Best case is I'm entirely off statins. I was a little annoyed.
Today's doc had already looked over my chart and knew about me and about half way through the meet and greet he said, 'why are you still on Crestor'. My man! So I'm off for six months and then we'll see. I'm down one drug (Crestor) and by August will be down the second (Plavix). That is a great thing.
This new cardiologist looks like your favorite friendly doctor. Marcus Welbey with darker hair. Same demeanor. The only problem is he's nearly old as me. I need 10 or 15 years out of him so I hope he's not ready to go anywhere.
He passed me for surgery too and all is well.
Now we just sit and wait.
On the 13th I meet with the ortho nurse to go over the surgery prep and after care. She passes me to the ortho surgeon who I've not met. Then we're on the conveyor belt.
