PayPal is my friend
Sep. 19th, 2024 12:25Dana found a couple of shirts she really liked being sold by a company out of Hong Kong, a TEMU wanna be. The three of them were only $25 and that included shipping. I'm not a huge fan of this kind of thing. The people that make clothing (fast clothing?) like this have to be underpaid. I buy coffee specifically from a group that ensures the growers are fairly treated. Same with the eggs I buy (chickens, in that case but still).
But I've also been married for 28 years to the same woman and am not stupid.
So I bought the shirts. I used PayPal for the payment and good thing. The tracking number I got back from Hong Kong never did appear on the USPS system. I guess the package never made it out of Hong Kong. They might be a legit company (and the internet seems to think so) but the result to me is the same as if they were a scam.
I wrote them and they replied that I should have received the package. I told them the USPS did not have tracking info so could they please send what they had for tracking and got the email equivalent of a mumble. The offered to refund the cost of the clothing but wanted me to cover the shipping. The shipping of something I never got. I told them that was not satisfactory and gave them 24 hours to respond.
PayPal has a great dispute system. It required me about five minutes to add all the info the result of which was: A refund is headed your way.
I immediately got my refund in PayPal and moved it into savings. At the $25 amount I guess they figured they could afford it. They will probably send off one inquiry to the Hong Kong company and then it will expire. Not worth the money.
But it is to me. Got my $25 back and am happy with PayPal. It is like having a policeman working for me when I'm out in the wild west.
