For some reason the insulation on my back door Nest cam deteriorated so the wires were exposed. About three inches of it. And the way the wiring works it is permanently attached at one end to the cam and at the other end to the adapter. No plug in. So my thought of using heat shrink plastic would not work. Cut it and wrap it around and it just shrinks off, not on. The whole idea of heat shrink tubing is that it is a tube. So, if you are in need of any of a dozen sizes of heat shrink tubing, I've got a case of 600 pieces. Fortunately it is cheap and I might use one or two in my lifetime.

Plan B was to go to Lowes and buy some plastic dip that I'd use for a tool handle. It is liquid plastic and would work fine. I said something to Dana about it and she suggested using caulking. I actually had some left over from a couple of weeks ago when I replaced some shower caulking. It is not made for this application but is waterproof and will stay where it is when it dries.

But, ugly in application:

I think it will work OK. The camera is not cheap and is still working fine so getting this done was pretty important.  I think I succeeded.

It is a beautiful day here.  This is the best couple of weeks we've had in distant memory.  Cold in the morning but by 9 or so the sun warms things up and it tops off at 75 or so.  Clear skies and bright sun.  We're going to need rain again, please, but it is nice to just have the back door open all day.  And way cheaper.  Our electricity bill will be half the norm.
