I did my thing this morning helping at the humane shelter. I helped the guy that does the publicity with bringing a dog down to Austin so he can be on one of the morning shows. Second time I've done it.

The dog is named 'Scar' and is one rescued from a place that had 67 dogs piled into kennels out in the country. Outside. They were all rescued and this one for some reason is still not adopted out.

He is the most laid back dog I've ever seen. As calm as he could possibly be. Happy to find new things to figure out. He had a hard time with the glass door apparently having never seen one before. He kept running into the wrong door, the one that wasn't open, thinking it was open. But it was all a curiosity to him and he was good with it.

You can, of course, see where this is going. He's just about the same size and age as Toby.

Toby has been showing that he's really not good with being an only dog. He has on a couple of occasions howled when we were both leaving. Not thrilled at all with being alone.

So, I'm looking in to it now.

I'm going to go back down to the shelter and talk to them about it. There is a bit of a timing issue with our going out of town but I do have a reservation for a doggy hotel and it is only for four nights. So no trama there.

Dana is in Tyler until Friday so I need to talk to them about it today and see if they can wait until Saturday for her to meet him.

And, of course, Toby has the final say one way or another.

But we're thinking of it. I do think Toby needs his own dog one way or another. This one would appear to be perfect but we'll see.

I took Toby to meet 'Scar' (name in parenthesis since I'm leaning towards Bojangles for obvious reasons).  They had no problems with each other.  A bit of shiffing here and there but no overt animosity and Toby was in the most unfamiliar environment he'd been in for as long as we've had him, the shelter.  So he was really nervous and no problems at all.  'Scar' is just a laid back dog no matter what.

They already had a 'he's taken' sign on the kennel and I've got him reserved with a promise to be back on Saturday morning where we'll have a Dana/Toby meet and greet.

But I think it is a done deal.  'Scar' has not, as far as I know, ever been inside a home.  He tried to walk through a glass door not understanding that there was glass there or what glass is or much what is door?  He reminds me of the grayhounds in Florida who had never seen steps before.

He'll take a little while to reset and learn where things are and there will be snipping over toys I'm sure but he's a lap dog and will likely attach to me while Toby is Dana's Alfa dog, or she is his actually.

I may take Toby back over tomorrow or Friday so he'll get the idea.  He does not like riding in the car as it ends up at the vet too often so maybe not.

Anyway, I think he needs a good home and Toby needs a friend to play with and so unless Dana freaks out, which I doubt, we'll double the paws in the house on Saturday morning.

I've got a 40 pound brand new bag of dog food that Toby just wasn't up to so he needs help.
