I'm not from these parts so rattlesnake is not my state reptile and bluebonnets are not my favorite wild flower.  But for [livejournal.com profile] mrdreamjeans and those of you who might like it, here is your bluebonnet picture.

I think that after yesterday's rains we may see some more of these

There is a tradition in Texas that parents take their baby out into a field and put them in a patch of bluebonnets and take a picture.  There is also a tradition that rattlesnakes who come out in large numbers this time of year like high protective ground cover to lie in the morning sun and get warm.  Darwin is always lurking around the corner.

Thanks for the bluebonnet photo. March and early April are my favorite times of the year in Texas because I do love taking a drive and photographing the wildflowers. I used to live in Brenham which has wonderful fields of bluebonnets and it's a fun time to drive between Llano and Fredericksburg for the flowers.

I have to say your Texas pictures look very different from the Texas i imagine in my head (or the one i visited - basically the strip from Dallas down to San Antonio). It looks much wetter than i imagine. Like, i think Texas and i think the "Rio" "Grande", which is basically just a dry, cracked gully, and dust bowl fields with oil rigs on them. Also, highschool football and tacos. I quite like that Texas. These wildflowers are pretty too, i suppose, just different.

This is the 10 minutes that Texas is green and wet. The rest of the year is dries out a lot. Not a desert but definitely feels like it sometimes. We are under a level 3 (out of four) water emergency and have been since this winter and likely will be through the summer unless the weather pattern changes. No automatic watering. So it doesn't look like it in the picture but we're in a drought that is just starting.
