Yesterday was a long day for both Zoe and me.  We were driving towards Texas A&M at 6:30 in the fog for a 9AM appointment.  It was foggy most of the way but fortunately not many cars on the road so we got there safely in the usual couple of hours.  I had given Zoe her Xanex and could not tell it was doing much so I gave her another half and then, once we got there and she was obviously still a little anxious, another half.  She's allowed two so I maxed her dosage.  She had a great day.

The vet was busy so what would normally have been a two hour checkup stretched into four.  Zoe had half a dozen vet co-eds making up a bed for her and giving her attention and making sure she was comfortable while they waited for the EKG machine or ultrasound equipment to be ready.  I had not such attention or place to nap.  Apparently she soaked it up.  They said she was fine the entire time and the results of the tests were all good across the board.  But she would not pee for them so they still needed a urine sample.

Once they get that she will have checked all the boxes and we'll receive either the trial drug (or a placebo) the object of which is to extend the quality and length of her life.  She takes a pill once a week and I log the weekly dosage and take her back in May for a check up.

To summarize.  Zoe had a wonderful day with good drugs and a bevy of cooing women to take care of her.  I had to drive four hours and wait for nearly another four and now have to follow behind her all morning until I can catch enough urine to ship them the sample.

Good thing I'm in charge here.

LOL! What's wrong with that picture? Remember, when the first sentence would have applied to you?

Did your shoulder hold up with all of the driving and activity?

Yeah, I was a little sore last night and took some pain med before bed to be sure I slept well but really I'm 100% as long as I don't reach above my shoulder or behind my back. Up to this point that has been the goal, minimal movement to let things kind of settle in. So if I've got a twinge of pain I just rest my arm and focus on not using the muscle (mostly the deltoid at this point) at all. Just letting it lay in my lap for a while works fine. So driving with an automatic was fine. And I did sleep well last night. All fine this morning.

This was hilarious to read (although I'm sure not fun for you!)

At least Zoe had a wonderful day...maybe you'll get one later in the week as your karmic reward!

Yeah, you know. She is my reward. My quality and longevity of life are both much better with her around. I only wish I could get a picture of the looks she gives me when I try to sneak up behind her to collect some urine.

The things we do for our non-human family members . . . :)

I've always said that waiting rooms should have beds and the family members should get the fun drugs, too. . . at least some for later after you drove home. ;)

Good stuff! Now you can look forward to spending the next few months trying to figure out if she's on the real thing or the placebo.

I know. Can't decide if it will drive me crazy or not. And I'm not sure if we ever get to know. Of course if she out lives me we'll get a clue
