I'm on our Congressman's mailing list mostly so I can answer his stupid 'when did you stop beating your wife' kind of surveys about the border wall and abortion/murder and all the usual Trumpist crap.  He asks and I tell him to start governing and stop rabble rousing.

This guy was actually on my list for years of people I'd like to sit and have a beer with.  But in the age of Trump, it would be like talking to Trump.  The days of reason are gone.  Carter votes nearly a perfect party line:

He wandered a few times, but nothing significant.

He wandered a few times, but nothing significant.

So now I see down the road signs for Abhiram Garapati for Congress.  Good, I say.  A primary.  Maybe I'll jump in and vote in the only primary that matters in this area, the GOP.

About 2 minutes on the guy's site and I see that he is running far to the right of our current congressman.  He wants a solid wall (the immigration issues are entirely Biden's fault), private insurance that is available to everyone without the government (not sure where he's getting an example for that having ever worked but I think he believes Ayn Rand), and audits for all departments in the Federal Government to find and eliminate waste (no discussion, of course, about audits of millionaires like he is).

Clearly a Trumpist.

So we've got both kinds of politicians here, Trump and more Trump.

Ah, crap.

It's so disappointing.

Damn! I hate it when a candidate is even more extremist than the officeholder. I despair of Texas ever getting its act together where voters elect leadership that actually tries to govern on the peoples' behalf.

I've sort of got the liberal version at home. My rep is Ilhan Omar. I disagree with many of her positions, but in my district, I don't see any more moderate Democrat beating her. I guess I'm not liberal enough ...

I'm giving a serious look at moving to Little Rock down the road. But, do I really want Sarah Huckabee Sanders as my governor?

Do you think Beto has a chance of winning the governorship?

Naah, I don't think Beto has a chance. And I suspect Carter will survive another term. There is such religious conservative base ingrained in this are of Texas and even more so out west that the San Antonio progressives will have a hard time making a dent. There's a lot of dems here mostly imported from California and those few left over LBJ/Ann Richards loyalists who are still alive. But the hard core right is still in charge working hard to maintain their position with gerrymandered voting districts and voting laws that make it more difficult for the poor (AKA — dems) to vote. Same shit, different day.

It's the main reason I would not move back to Texas. Beto should have beaten Cruz. I grew up in Texas with no elected statewide official until John Tower.
