Schizophrenic entry

On my right hand monitor I'm watching the Aljazeera coverage of Russia attacking Ukraine (AJ doesn't interrupt coverage with insipid commercials) and on the left monitor is this entry on a Russian server.

We need a better, more precise or at least more accurate word than "schizophrenic." By (medical) definition, schizophrenia is a divorce from reality.
For a minute or two, I was thinking, "Hypocritical, probably," but now I'm thinking, "Aljazeera reporting Russia invading Ukraine while watching LJ on a Russian server," is more a matter of irony.
Ineluctable.

Because of the news this morning (including the insipid commercials), it struck me that we might not have this platform, but more significantly is this, that even if we do, I'm pretty well convinced that I don't want to use it.

(Remember you heard this next bit first, right here, not even in my own journal, yet.) I just finished setting up a journal at DreamWidth. I'm moving.

I don't use this the same was as so many. To me it is live communication (first and foremost with my sister) and not any kind of diary to save. So if it disappears I don't much care. I've never even figured out how to do a search to find something I wrote earlier and have not used hashtags.

It all disappears into the ether.

Any archivist would hate me.

The few Russians i know (although admittedly it's a self-selected group of Russians-who-interact-with-non-Russians) don't support this war.

No reason to think there is popular support for the war. I suspect there is not and will be less so when the economy collapses as it will.

Listening and watching Putin led me to realize that in the same situation Trump would sound just the same. Bigger and he would never have the cajones to invade anyone but the words are the same and the logic is the same.

AJ also has some of the best coverage for parts of the world we don’t pay proper attention to. I started watching during the Egyptian unrest a few years ago. Their analysis was much more nuanced than anything coming out to the US, and Canadian coverage (with the notable exception of one Arabic-speaking journalist) was nothing but feeds from others, with a few talking heads.

Yeah, I agree. I keep the AJ English on my phone to get a different point of view and a more nuanced version of the other side of the globe.
