No pickles today

I've been getting exercise every day for a while now. Today is a day off. I still did my morning mile and a half with Toby and Zoe but nothing else today. I just picked up a roast and I'll cook it soon as it is too hot to barbeque. It is only going up to 93 today which is down about 10 degrees so it is not as bad. Still a red flag day.
We play pickleball at 7:30 which means I get up before six to get the dog walk in and just make the timing. I'm back by 10:30 and tired but no longer exhausted. I'm getting used to it. My daily steps are always around 12k most of which are on the court. Choppy start and stop. And lots of arm swinging.
Pickleball is so popular because it is, for most people, playtime at recess. I play with some people who look like they could be blown over with a stiff wind and a few who are borderline athletes. A lot of the seniors who don't even try for the shots that would make them move quickly still do fairly well. It is more about shot selection, quick hand/eye coordination, and timing than anything else. Power only goes so far and can be defeated by perfectly acceptable dinks that would be frowned upon in tennis.
I'm fairly good at it but still have a lot of improving to do. If I want to improve. Some days I don't much care. I'm not going to the olympics and have never played with a serious partner. In fact, the groups I play with specifically set it up so your partners change so no pairings get much better. I play with one lady who is older than me, I think, by a few years and is much less athletic. But she used to cycle (and was a customer of Friendly Computers so I've actually known her for a long time) and has excellent shot making ability. She never much tries to get to a ball that is out of her reach but I know that and count on it so I just cover more court. When she does hit the ball she makes great shots. We're a good pair and if we cared enough to do so could play together in competition. Neither of us do.
Unfortunately I'm getting known. Between dog walking and Pickleball and having one of the few smart cars in the area my days of anonymity are not as frequent. I don't know anyone's name but they know me. It is weird.
This week we are meeting Dana's son, Joseph, and his family (wife and two urchins) at a local resort with water park. They are staying at the resort, The Kahlihari, and invited us to spend the day at the water park. It should be fun. There is more to do inside than outside so the 95 degree forecast is not too scary.
I just saw my first NextDoor 'We have the God Given RIGHT to blow up things on the 4th of July!!!' post. I was waiting. 91 comments later it is still funny.

You can print the rules. https://usapickleball.org/what-is-pickleball/ There aren't that many for what I call 'recess' pickleball.
It is a very social game. You can play singles but I've never seen it. So you need three other people and about $50 of equipment not including the court. Don't pay very much. Buy yellow balls (avoid the other colors). Any paddle will do when you are starting out.
The whole thing is stupid easy and addictive as crack. Anyone, I mean ANYONE, can play.
The hardest part is finding an available court. They are usually crowded.
