Today was supposed to be a day of rest for me and it turned out well. I did a little chasing around this morning in pursuit of a Dog Ranch project. This gate no longer works:

I fixed it once with a new hinge and a reinstalled latch and it worked for six months. But the guy that cuts the grass hit the left post and knocked it off a couple of inches so the latch (which only has about a half an inch leeway before it does not work) no longer latches. If you look you can see that the two posts are not exactly parallel. Kind of makes it hard for the gate to work.

SO I thought if I could put a top arch on the gate to hold them parallel it would fix the problem. But the right hand post is about 5'4" so I can't just put a bar across the top. It has to have some elevation in the middle so people over 6 feet don't bonk their heads. Seems easy. Right.

I've now bought two one inch flat pieces of iron four feet long and a 90 degree angle iron. I'm welding them together with epoxy welding paste. Once I've got that I'll bend the ends and drill holes and screw them into the top of the posts after I've made them once again parallel. Piece of cake.

Oh, yeah, whoever built the damn thing left the posts at different heights as you can see so I've also got to cut off the left one so they are the same height. Without electricity. Hand saw. In 100+ degree heat.

Pictures to follow.

Don't ever visit NZ, as I would greet you with a string of projects for you to complete. If you can do this you can obviously do anything.
