I was going to mount my gate arch today but realized that painting it after mounting it is dumb. It has to be painted since it is iron and will rust if/when it ever rains here again. So I'm going to get it when I go out tomorrow (I'd do it today but an hour round trip just to pick up something I can get tomorrow is also dumb) and bring it back for painting. I just need to be sure we've got some Rustoleum spray paint. Then I'll go back on Saturday and mount it and fix the gate latch.

So my plan of doing something today is done.

My mornings are mostly full with pickleball or dog walking. But for Sunday and Wednesday. Fitbit says I get plenty of activity. If it were not so damn hot I'd go for a bike ride but my body would probably appreciate the rest so I'll do some yoga and stretching and then clean up the house some and fix a few things around here.

We've got food from Hello Fresh being delivered today so I don't have to figure out dinner. Might be the highlight of my day.

Social Security did get Dana's application for benefits so we're on track for that. I think it will likely be September before we get the first payment so it is not time to put anymore effort into those plans but I'm already much less stressed about cashflow than I was.

I'll probably call to kick off the attic project today. Dana said that we should get another quote and I said she should get one this time. Nothing further so I'll move forward. $1600 to upgrade to where things should be is the right price. And I like the vendor.

I was interested in how Social Security works after your last post, so I looked it up. Like your taxation system, there seems to be a lot to it. Ours has a childlike simplicity in comparison. There are no earner payments for ours that are specifically dedicated to superannuation (as we call it), it just comes out of general taxation. You're eligible from the age of 65 and it's not means tested. The rate is $992/fortnight for a single person and $763/fortnight (per person) for a couple. All of this is generous and there are always rumblings about raising the eligibility age but so far no government has dared to do it. Considering our small tax base, this is a disaster waiting to happen.
