I found a better place, I think. There is a European repair shop not too far from here that says on their web site they fix Smart Cars. So I went there today. The kid at the first PC said 'I'm not sure we do' but the manager behind him at the next desk asked what year it was and more questions and basically said 'we don't get them in here but they are not that hard to fix'. My sentiments exactly. They are made by krauts and are solid and well thought out and if I had the set up I'd do all the work. Like Volkswagens of old. Since this is a European repair shop they will do fine. We have an appointment for the 3rd of Jan to fix the oil drain plug, change oil and filters, and give the whole thing a good going over. I feel pretty good about this place. It is small and they will remember the car when I go back.
Meanwhile I went to the AFIB doctor. I've got a cardio doc but this guy is next level up. Senior staff and a specialist in treating AFIB. I'm interested in getting off blood thinners and they have developed some new tech called 'Watchman' that would get me there. One of my Pickleball friends just had it done and is evaluating the results. It would be a laparoscopic surgery. Not nothing as minimal as anything that screws with my heart could be. Even though I don't have any blood thinner side effects I'd like to not be on it forever. There are long term downsides and were I to fall I'd be much more likely to have problems (brain bleed type stuff). SO I've been thinking of working towards getting off them.
It is so weird this point in life to make medical decisions. No one will tell you what to do. This guy, who is a great explainer, constantly talks in percentages. Nothing is absolute. To me that is comforting. Anyone that says this is a perfect solution makes me nervous.
But most of the decisions to be made have a lot of consequences that bear a lot of consideration. Screwing with my heart is definitely one of them.
I suspect I'll get the Watchman implant and try to get off thinners. There are hazards either way so I take the higher percentage.
