How to prep for a vacation

Just this morning I told Dana that once we got back from vacation the breaks were locked with respect to discretionary spending.  We're spending way too much and keep getting hit with a monthly emergency.  We're OK but not saving near what we should.  Last year's inflation has really caught up to us too.  A combination we need to wrassle down.

So today the mail had another dead tree mailing from my mortgage company.  I normally don't even look at them.  No matter what I do they are determined to kill a tree and put it in the mail to me every month.

I opened the one from today pretty much to glance it before tossing it.

Until I saw the title:  'Your Escrow Account Has A Surplus' 

Well aware of that I was.  Our taxes went down by $2000ish this past year.  We're old and the Gov wants us to love his wheely shriveled little heart for another term.  Not all of his grafting friends and fellow office holders have squeezed the state for what they can.

Here's a check for $1902.76 and, by the way, your payments will be $105.70 less for the next year.

That's a pretty good kickoff for vacation.  Fill the coffers and lower the monthly.

Could be worse.  The state's going to shit but I'm making out.
