And it's not the city

After bitching about the city utilities I found their emergency number and called. I got a call back from a very nice guy whose children I could hear in the background. He came over and checked my outside faucet (something I should have thought of doing). It was running fine. Which means it was between the outside faucet and the inside faucet. Which means it was likely the water softener system. It has a bypass valve where the water is redirected instead of going through the softener. That fixed it.
We have very high mineral content here and either the minerals or the stuff they put in the water really bothers my skin. I LOVE soft water and we have the system. It cost about one thousand bucks nearly six years ago. My guess is that there is a part or two that need to be replaced. The company that does it is a really good one so I'll call them in the morning. In the meanwhile we now have city water again, not softened but available.
Our house is close to six years old. I'm thinking about paying a house inspector to go over the whole thing and have him find anything and everything that might be wrong. According to the Googles it should cost around $350 but I think it is a good time to find out any bad news we might have.
