Zoe usually gets me up at 6.  Since she's deaf she barks once, really loud.  Not a great way to get up for me but sometimes I hear her moving around first and get up just on that.  This morning she was an hour early.  So I'm thinking I'll have a good nap later.

I got to the Ranch yesterday morning and no one was there.  I finally did see one person in the small dog house but that was it.  Just me.  And, of course, about 27 dogs all saying good morning, where's our food.  Turns out the person who normally runs the big dog house was on vacation and they kind of fumbled the coverage.  And the other couple who are usually come when I do didn't show.  All of which is not my job.  My job is to walk the dogs, so I did that.  I finally talked to the woman in the small dog house and found out about the vacation thing.  Turns out that woman has the flu but was working anyway because if she didn't there would not be anyone there.  I've been very impressed with her before, now even more so.

After texting the Ranch owner to be sure something was in the works I did my dog walking thing.  One of the other two volunteers finally arrived but was by himself and had some kind of project he was doing that was not dog walking.  He frequently does that.  Something he thinks is important to improve.  I think he's kind of a nightmare volunteer, always with an idea or a 'project' that would improve things when they really just want him to walk the damn dogs.

It is very difficult to stay in my lane but looking from above I think it is the best thing I can do.  I walked seven dogs in two hours which was all the time I had.  Then off back home to shower and get to my lunch with my networking group.  Then back home to change cars and get Dana and go get her shot.

I went in and met the doctor and got the whole description of what is wrong and what they are doing about it.  He had the MRI up on the computer and could show the disk (really two disks) that were compressing on her nerve.  She's got a soft tissue problem of a disk that has become too narrow over time.  There is a nerve going out either side from that disk space and down her (and your) legs.  The little bit of compression is what is causing her sciatic nerve to fire off periodically.  Like electricity.  And in between firings it just hurts.  It was really nice to be able to see what was going on.

She then got a steroid nerve shot into that disk.  We'll see in a week if it was effective.  If not they will shoot the disk below it.  Kind of hit or miss.  If it is effective then we've got the right disk and things should be 80% better.  I don't think it gets too much better than that but that would be enough so she can walk.  If she does not move then arthritis starts building up and things get worse.  Use it or lose it.

The description was really wonderful to see.  How things work.

We're just waiting now.  Nothing is better but at least we're on the right track.

And I'm getting ready for pickleball now.  Move it or lose it.

Ugh, poor Dana, sciatic pain is terrible. Fingers crossed the steroid is effective.

Poor Dana. Not being mobile must be so depressing for her.
Lets hope it works for her.
