I discovered Brandon Sanderson this year too. I'd been avoiding him as I was mixing him up with Brannon Braga, whose work I didn't enjoy on the later Star Trek series.
I wasn't so fussed on Mistborn and I don't think I read past the first one, but I definitely recommend his first book, Elantris. It's got the most unusual premise I think I've ever seen in a fantasy novel (I won't spoil it).
