cross training

I've got two really nice bikes. They've been sitting (or actually hanging) in the garage for a year without use. The one I really like requires me to wear bike shoes and so get more dressed in bike clothes. The trail bike does not require special gear but is so heavy I don't much like riding it. At least in my current conditioning.
I just went around the block on the trail bike. Google says I went 1.4 miles which seems about right. It was hard. Unused muscles.
One thing about riding a bike is it is excellent cardio. With only the effort of going up and down the local hills or into the wind I get a much better workout than walking or playing pickleball. So I've been thinking more and more about riding some. I'm going to try Wednesdays and maybe a weekday. Just around our neighborhood. If I need a workout it is easy to just go down a hill then back home. There are some huge hills here so no problem finding one.
There is so much traffic around the roads out of the development I'm not much inclined to ride them. There are far fewer cyclists around here than there used to be. Way too many cars. So I'll stay in our development. If I get too bored I can cross with the light into our neighboring development and explore.
But, for now. I'm resting.
