The last time I saw this many days this cold and ice and snow and power loss, the Internet was a dream and the WWW was 15 years in the future.  I'd not realized it but with an occasional one or two day snow storm followed by sun and slush I have not seen snow and real cold since I lived in Maine.  And never with a dog to care for.

Fortunately we had food and a gas stove so not like we were in any kind of trouble.  But still an experience that may not yet be over.  We lost power and Internet.  And I got a decent snow shoveling workout making a path for a dog bathroom and making sure we could use the car in an emergency.

I'll sleep well tonight.

The biggest problem is that there is a sheet of ice hidden under all the snow.  I grabbed some salt pellets from our water softener and scattered them on the drive and out the front walk so as it warms up they will melt first.  In the past I was smart enough to buy a box of kosher salt (useful for many things) but I didn't have very much this time.  The water softener pellets were not the best but they are better than nothing.

It's going to be Friday before it is warm enough to really start melting.  Until then we're iced up and the puppies have cold paws.

It is pretty and, in this part of the country, everyone will just wait for it to thaw. No snow plows in the neighborhood and no one shovels out. I think sometime this weekend it will be warm enough to really melt. I did some shoveling for the dogs and to be sure we have emergency access to the car but not worth doing much else. So the view has not much changed.

They don't plow? Can emergency vehicles get through if necessary?

Yeah, there are people (not smart people) driving around.
