Just another dog day
Jun. 8th, 2023 11:26Now that I've decided not to take out the four really strong dogs life is easier and less stressful at the Dog Ranch. They made the decision that they didn't want me to take the dogs out and put them back in a manner that would be safe so I just don't take them out at all. I hope the staff does spend more time with them but I can only control what I can control.
We had an extra volunteer today which means I could spend more time with the dogs I did take out. Always a benefit. So nice to just hang out with a dog for a while with no pressure to get to the next one. Khalisi agrees:

Someone set out a chair under a shade tree and she and I sit out there and discuss life. She has a lot to say. Every once in a while she will punctuate her comments by running at me and hitting me like a football lineman. If she could laugh, she would. Major attack by a pit bull. Then she just rolls on her back for scratches.
She has a long term ACL problem in her right rear leg so I can't do what I'd like to do with her. Tug o' war and chase the ball and eat the ball. She is such a hilarious combination of puppy and full grown pit bull and doesn't have a mean bone in her body.
I did get invited to play pickleball today with a group I've played with before. It is strange to be social suddenly after being so reclusive (and happily so) for the past four or five years since I was no longer involved in the business. The people are all nice and all retired and mostly my age or nearly so. It is playground time. I'm a better player than most of them. More in shape and with lots of tennis tactics in my blood. But I don't play as hard as I can and send some easy shots to the players who need the encouragement. I'm still learning the game. It is more subtle than it looks, easy to play, difficult to master the tactics and control.
Today will be playing in 90 degree sun so it might not be great. It is a test. I mostly play in the morning so I may be moving slowly and not chasing down the lobs.
