Excellent retired day
Aug. 21st, 2023 14:41Due to the heat, pickleball is early. At 7:30 early. That would not be an issue but Zoe NEEDS her morning walk and by the time I get back from PB it it too late. So we go for our walk in the dark, an hour before sunrise. It is a good part of the day but is kind of a PIA to clean up after them in the dark on the path and I don't use a light. I could probably get a red lens light but it seems too hard. I keep thinking this is temporary but maybe I need to accept it as more permanent. I've got good night vision and I hate to blow it with a white light.
OKOK, stop hounding me, I just bought one, a 'tactical' light in case Russia comes here after Ukraine. This isn't LJ, I can say that, right? Amazon to the rescue. I should probably have a rechargeable light in my car anyway.
Where was I? Oh, yeah. After the walk I need to quickly get my stuff together, drink the protein shake I made for myself the night before, make a couple of pieces of toast for the road, load up the water (66 OZ combination of water and Gatorade) and drive like a maniac to Georgetown to get there by 7:30. At 7:30 everyone has already picked three other people and found a court so if the numbers aren't even you end up playing with three people. There's a three person PB game but it is not as good. The numbers never seem to be two or one left over. Always 3.
Anyway, two+ hours of PB today and I was still feeling good. Last Saturday I crashed in the last 20 minutes. I was dehydrated despite having gone through twenty two OZ of water on the court. I stopped in the middle of the last game, gave my apologies and sat in the shade for a while. It is given that no one falls, no one passes out, no one goes too far. A singe comment 'I'm feeling kind of hot' will stop play and bring on lots of offers for a cold towel and/or water. After sitting for a while on Saturday I felt fine. When I got home I weighed myself and I'd lost over 3 pounds. I did the same today when I felt fine at the end and I'd lost only 1. Huge difference. According to Dr Internet I was down a liter and a half of water and that was after I got home and had some more to drink on the way. I'm now weighing myself when I get home so I can track it.
Today I got back, showered, put my stuff in the washing machine and lay down to watch then end of last night's disaster they are calling a soccer match between Austin FC and St Louis. It was ugly and required a nap afterward.
Then on to my rigorously scheduled day the sum total of which was not to forget to feed Zoe at 2:30. I've got a reminder set for that. It is called Zoe. She is very good about reminding me.
And that is it for the day. I'm exhausted.
