I'm not a fan of big crowds so driving into the city to see a concert at a fairly large venue is not my idea of a good time. We'll see how the various viri treat me after being in the crowd. We'll have to wait a couple of weeks to know that we're clear.
Meanwhile, the concert was great. The audience was about 60% old and 40% not old which is a testament to Santana's staying power. Fifty five years ago plus a couple of days Santana played the biggest show of his life. He had not yet released an album and very few knew who he was but that performance and the movie a year or so later that made if famous changed his life forever. All of the sudden he was everywhere. I'd venture to say he got more mileage from Woodstock than anyone else who played there.
His group consists of four full percussionists (complete drum kit or bongos or a variety of other types) one of whom is his wife. They add two or three more percussionists for some of the songs. They also have one of the three best base players I've ever seen, another guitar and, of course, Carlos. The group is loud and very rhythm heavy. You know most of the songs. He's been dining out on they for his entire life. I once saw Gloria Estephan who headed the Miami Sound Machine. Very similar style and sound. It is intoxicating. We were sitting high in the back balcony and it was close enough. I had hearing protection with me and nearly used it.
But we got there and back and everyone on the street was happy and not drunk. So there were no negative interactions.
We got home well after midnight and I had an 8AM pickleball game. So I just got up from a nap.
