Ranch news et al
Dec. 18th, 2024 10:04I've not played Pickleball in a week. We went out Friday morning for a group lesson and it started drizzling so we not only lost the lesson we could not play at all. There are no indoor courts where I play and they do not allow us to play when it might be even a little bit slippery. Same for Monday, it was drizzly. And today isn't looking good either. I'm scheduled to be with a group at 1PM but it is supposed to be 18 MPH winds and that is no fun with a plastic ball. So I'm in withdrawals.
It is actually pretty easy for me to do nothing or nearly nothing. But not good for me.
I'm toying with the idea of booking a trainer at the fitness place get me going. Unfortunately this time of year is the worst to start something as all the Resolution people pick it up. So I might wait for the swell to pass. Or take advantage of the seasonal deals.
Meanwhile, I had some Paisley time yesterday. She is going to fit in well at the Ranch. She's still got a cone on since she was spayed but I took it off and she was happy with me picking her up. Lots of affection and happy to be held. I took her out on the leash and she did pretty well. Many of the dogs at the Ranch have never been on a leash so they take a while but she figured it out pretty quick and we had a nice time. Here is her Best In Show picture:

Such a lovely dog. I'm thinking that someone from the Ranch will end up fostering her. I'd consider it if we didn't already have two.
As we walked by the small dog house they had just let a bunch out for their morning howl:

It was like murderer's row. They were ready to take us on. I do not know many of the smaller dogs but second from the right is Henry. He came to the Ranch obese and everyone has taken part in getting him down to fighting weight. And he's a beagle so you always know where he is.
There is another new dog, Walter. No picture today but he is already a favorite of mine. He's a cranky old man boxer mix who bit one of the kids at his home so they got rid of him to the Ranch. He will fit in perfectly and is clearly philosophically in tune with me. He's really skittish right now but he'll be fine soon enough.
I had lunch yesterday with my networking group of three. We were eating at Cracker Barrel and it was so noisy we could not hear each other. Since the reason we get together is to talk it was more than a little annoying. I was able to talk to one of the three others, the closest. We traded book information and he wanted me to read the first book in a series by Brandon Sanderson, who I'd never heard of. It is a pure fantasy book, not rooted in any reality other than people and gravity. Not my milieu but Tyson is so into it. He's a very successful businessman, a devout LDS follower, and family man. Who reads pure fantasy. Huge disconnect for me so I'm intrigued. I told him I'd look into it and he sent me a free Audible gift of the first book, Mistborn. It is a 25 hour Audible read. Definitely a departure from my usual detective fare.
SO happy to know that there are only 15 more days until the 2nd of January. So looking forward to that.
