Order!

My wife went to the store on Wednesday.  I nearly always do the shopping and a lot of the stocking up comes out of my head as I walk through the store as does a lot of our meal ideas.  But she wanted to go.  Of course the next day, yesterday, I thought of more things we needed that I probably would have remembered as I wandered down the isles.  Rather than go to the store I took advantage of our HEB online ordering and free shopping (it used to cost $5 which was just enough to put me off but now is free over $35.. pretty much two packs of gum).  I set up an order and Dana is going in towards the big city of Georgetown today to get Toby's hair cut so she's going to pick it up on her way back.

Of course this morning I thought of one more thing.  I put it in Amazon for delivery.

That will probably keep me until Sunday by which time I will have thought of something else.  And this on top of an excellent system we have with Alexa to just tell her anytime we're missing something.

HEB is currently constructing a store within bike riding distance that should be open in the fall.  I'm thinking it is perfect for me.  Hop on the bike with a back pack and get the lettuce for dinner I'd forgotten earlier in the day.

Just in time.

I'm curious ... Do Dana and you ever do the grocery shopping together?

My mother and father always got groceries together ... which means mom did all of the walking and lifting and dad sat at the front of the store chatting up anyone who would listen. :)

Almost never. I do nearly all the cooking and so do nearly all the shopping.

Great image of your parents shopping. Old school.

... And if I was home, I went along to help mom, walking the aisles, lifting items for her and bagging the groceries. As a bachelor, I've not had anyone else to do it for me.

"Chatting up" always amuses me when it's used in the US - in the UK it means to flirt, but since it crossed the Atlantic it mutated into more general chatting. I'm guessing your mom would not have liked the original meaning:).

Funny. I'd never seen the original meaning. Yeah, I think it was softened a bit during the cross Atlantic travel.

"Chatting up" may mean to flirt today in the U.K., but did it when Bill Schubert was a kid?
His mom might not have liked the current meaning, but what was the original meaning? "Quizzical" isn't used today as it was originally, either, and I'd bet there are dozens of such words.

Nope ... For my dad, it meant talk to anyone who would listen and bore them to tears.

your new HEB now shows up on Google maps. that's so nice of them to build that for you.

Isn't it, though? Six minute bike ride and hardly leave the neighborhood. It is actually closer than it appears on the map. And they have a lot of one person meals for under $10 so it will be easy to just run over and pick up salmon and green beans meal or whatever.

It is also the first grocery store designed since Covid so I'm very interested to see how they have it set up. I know they have a covered drive through for grocery pickup on one end of the building. I'm guessing that will be popular.

I always place our online grocery order early on Thursday morning for delivery on Friday morning, and we have until midnight Thursday to make any changes.
