For nearly all of my life I've been like Tevye: "On the other hand."  But I'm clearly getting old and crusty and my understanding and forgiveness has reached an end.  Two items in particular have hit a wall with me.

1 — From their hospital bed "I should have gotten a vaccine and everyone else should get one too" as they die.  No longer a shred of sympathy.  It's not like it was bad luck you missed the one chance at the last life boat as the ship goes down.  There was a life boat every damn day for the past six months with hundreds of thousands of people pleading with you to get onboard.

No, no other hand.

2 — Deleting something that was thrown up on the Internet that reflected the true inner personality and opinions of the person who said it with a follow on apology of contrition:

He could shoot Biles on the streets of Laredo and get away with it (what he really thinks)

He could shoot Biles on the streets of Laredo and get away with it (what he really thinks)

This posted in replacement of:

I would believe him if he had said "the AG has told me that if I don't apologize I will lose my job and my wife said she will leave me so I'm really sorry".  Might give him a bit of a pass.

But, no, there is no other hand.

Unfortunately he probably got the vaccine and won't admit it so Darwin will not have a chance to thin him.

Oh, but Darwin does have a small chance to thin him. Remember the vaccine is no guarantee of not getting Covid-19, and there is also no guarantee of not dying from it even when vaccinated. That's why it's so infuriating that people refuse to get vaccinated.

I read a big long article the other day about the reasons people haven't gotten vaccinated, and how we vaccinated people are done with them. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2021/07/vaccinated-america-breaking-point-anti-vaxxers/619539/

Yeah, I'm done being patient and happy I don't have children in school or a job to go to and I can pretty much avoid contact with people. I can wear a mask when I have to interact.

We'll have another variant soon (Brazil?) and a third after that is my prediction. So maybe two more years of this.

I was thinking the other day about how the Black Death lasted for decades (and recurred several times). Of course these days we have a better understanding of what causes disease, and of course we have vaccines. But still, it was disheartening to realize this pandemic could last for quite a bit longer. I had hoped it would all be over about a year after a vaccine was available. Apparently not.

I feel vengeful ... May there be a pox on his head and every member of his family for being such an asshat. May he suffer a huge loss in his life and the reminder of his life be filled with never-ending negativity and loss!

It blows my mind how people think they are entitled to any opinion about some gymnast whose name they didn't know yesterday. Much less anything else about her.

She made a decision. Media/Social media blew it up. We'll all forget about it in a month.

I strongly suspect that someone else wrote that apology. I doubt very much that he himself was capable of forming those sentences.

He's got people to apologize for him.

The issue is not about him, it is about the lack of courage in the public domain. If he believes what he said about Biles, don't delete the tweet. Stand up and be counted as who he is. If he doesn't believe it then he just needs to crawl into a hole and be the chicken shit maggot he is.

But this happens every day with so many people in an influential position. They say something bilious that genuinely hurts someone not because they have any insight but because, for some inane reason, they have followers. And then some short time later they delete what they said. Never mind. Didn't mean it. I'm still a great person.

It is far worse than just standing up and being a straight up asshole. Planting the flag. This is just a minor example.

Yeah it is a bad cycle. It is why LJ is as close to social media as I get.
